Shangrila Lake or Lower Kachura Lake is part of Shangrila resort located at 30 minutes from Skardu town & 15 minutes from Skardu airport. Shangrila is one of the most popular summer tourist destination of Pakistan. It offers mouth watering Pakistani & international cusines to tourist visiting shangrila skardu has a unique restaurant that is built on the fuselage of an aircraft.
Shangrila was named after a book titled “Lost Horizon” by James Hilton. In the novel, the author narrates a tale in which an aeroplane crash landed near a riverbed, in the early 1920s. The surviving passengers came across some Buddhist monks from a nearby temple and sought their help. They were taken to a beautiful lamasery filled with a variety of fruits and flowers. The monks looked quite young, although they claimed to be hundreds of years old. The idyllic place was called Shangri-la, a Tibetan word meaning “Heaven on earth”.
Skardu is a major tourism & trekiking hub in Gilgit-Baltistan. The mountainous terrain of the region, including four of the world’s 14 Eight-thousander peaks (8,000 m and above), attracts the attention of tourists, trekkers and mountaineers from around the world. The main tourist season is from April to October; except this time, the area can be cut off for extended periods by the snowy, freezing winter weather.
